Synopsis
Last Choice is a hybrid documentary exploring the social-withdrawal phenomenon and the dark side of the society in Japan. Set during the deadly earthquake and the tsunami in 2011, the film follows a true story about a hikikomori who has locked himself in room playing games for three years, and now faces the dilemma between going out or staying, which ultimately is also the choice between living or dying.

Under the most desperate circumstance, what would you choose, if facing the deepest fear is the only way of survival? What if the fear is actually the most ordinary thing you can ever imagine, which is other human beings? Most people will prefer facing other people than dying without a doubt. But for some people, they would rather commit suicide than seeing anyone.

Hikikomori, which is a Japanese term for social-withdrawal, is becoming one of the most urgent social topics in Japan. Literally meaning “pulling inward and being confined", hikikomoris are reclusive adolescents or adults who withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement. Estimates suggest that nearly half a million Japanese youth have become social recluses, which is almost 10% of Japanese teenage population. They refuse to participate in any social occasions and facing anyone, even under the dire situation. 
They live out their lives in the virtual world, instead of the real one.
To recreate the true story of a hikikomori committing suicide by deciding not to evacuate before the tsunami in 2011, Lu, the director of ‘Last Choice’, follows the hikikomori's footsteps to Japan and worked with local communities and journalists. Through having interviews with hikikomoris and their families, ‘Last Choice’ tries to reveal the reason behind the choice that looks so abnormal on the surface. The crew is made up by a big percentage of hikikomori, including the narrator and the actor, who are willing to share their own experiences. &#38;nbsp;
“Arising from heavy stress, all of sudden at the age of late 30s I confined myself to a room for about one year. This experience gave me some sort of idea when I created the character for the project.” Sho Oyamada, the lead actor of ‘Last Choice’ said. 
‘Last Choice’ is also a story about the ultimate relationship between a man and a space, even the space beyond physical. Hikikomori literally means a person living in the cocoon. To recreate the cocoon, which is the perfect nest for hikikomori, both physical sets and digital sets referenced from Japan Otaku culture during the early 2010s. Games like Final Fantasy and Gundam are memories for otakus during that time frame, thus the production design, set design, and character design are all created according to the aesthetic and logic of well-known mangas and animations. 
"Lu recreated a dark room of hikikomori in his apartment basking in full of sunshine in Los Angeles, cast a Japanese actor who had been actually a hikikomori in the past, and took a trip to Japan to hear the voices of the real hikikomoris. I was one of them, and our interview has been published on the Hikipos; the web media that Japanese hikikomoris are running by ourselves. All those processes have produced this work, consisting of the cruel contrast between the raw tragedy by natural disaster and the glittering world drawn in the mind of the hero hikikomori," said Vosot Ikeida, the narrator of the film, who is a Japanese man who has been confining himself for more than 30 years. &#38;nbsp;
The purpose of the project is to raise awareness of hikikomori for the audience who consider themselves “normal” and rethinking what is “craziness.” Hikikomoris are being discriminated and being looked down upon in Japan, but it is a result of a series of tangled society and family issues. Social-withdrawal is also not exclusive to Japan, there are similar cases being reported all around the world. While more and more sociologists and psychologists devoting themselves in learning this urgent topic, the film will be the agency to understand how severe this phenomenon is.

If there is a need for a monument in this city, let there be one. This monument will become a slice of the contemporary world, and the ideology of citizens will be revealed with a massive collage of culture symbols.


Taiwan has been colonized by the Dutch, the Spanish, the Chinese and the Japanese people in modern history. A diverse political and cultural heritage has rendered Taiwan a country without clear root or origin. Taiwan thus becomes a blender that accepts most influences from other cultures. The mixture also represents in the build environment.&#38;nbsp; Taiwan has find ways to incorporate different cultural aspects, whether traditional or modern, western or eastern. Like all other colonized cities, the urban scape is an agglomeration of different influences and developments.


To represent the city and its people, the government started a project to create a monument that is also a tremendous housing. Having no more land to use in the already crowded city, the only way to go is up. A colossal height is expected, and the design becomes a task of vertical urban-planning. 

A megastructure in architecture as well as a superstructure in the sense of Marx theories, this monument / housing complex is an embodiment of economy, culture and society.

Coca-Cola Dreamworld is a world-building experience powered by augmented reality. The users scan the QR code on the Coca-Cola Dreamworld cans to activate a portal, which takes them to an otherworldly landscape. Featuring Tomorrowland music festival DJ Martin Garrix, KC Lights, James Hype, and Vintage Culture, the users will play a rhythm game to construct the world and discover hidden surprises.

The Background

Coca-Cola Dreamworld, the brand’s new limited-edition creation, is inspired by what dreams could taste like. Coca-Cola wanted people to experience the flavour in a multi-sensory way – so we built an augmented reality experience that immerses them inside their own personal Dreamworld.

The Execution
Coca-Cola Dreamworld is a surreal, world-building mobile experience powered by augmented reality. By scanning the QR code on Coca-Cola cans and bottles, users can activate an AR portal which transports them into the otherworldly Dreamworld landscape. Our team created a world progression that gradually evolves from an ethereal landscape into a more vibrant, dynamic cityscape. We assigned different colour palettes to each phase of the world, allowing each to have its own identity whilst maintaining the same overall aesthetic.&#38;nbsp;Set to an exclusive megamix from top Tomorrowland music festival DJs, users could take part in a rhythm game within the experience, constructing the world around them and discovering hidden surprises as they hit the beats in time to the music. This gamified element invited them to be part of the Dreamworld progression not just passively but dynamically, driving the evolution of the space with rhythm and musical beats.First, our team visualised all the Dreamworld scenes as 3D keyframes, which became the basis for further animation creation. Later, we used them as visual references for visual development in WebGL and 8th Wall, where the world interactions and audio-reactive animations took place.

“The concept of “Naked life” is built around the ideal that life can be fulfilled without the confinements of nationality, class, race or gender.”

This project delineate a bottom-up reflection for pilgrimage towards the concept of “naked life” in the futuristic bathhouse city located at the borders of two Korea. We propose that in the near future, this unorthodox bathhouse city becomes a new front in propaganda warfare. Amidst unsoothing tensions, we seek to explore possibilities for visitors of this city to unshackle the ever-present political pressure that may undermine the pursuit of freedom and equality. Within this premise, the design of boiler rooms and flues are intentionally enlarged to serve as camouflage, protecting its innocent visitors and, ultimately, the ideology of “naked life”.

“4993 Feet Under” is an innovative exploration of the intersection between cinema and real-time technology, utilizing a hybrid documentary approach to depict the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. This spectacle chronicles the entire life cycle of a Whale Fall. Audiences embark on a poignant journey, witnessing the final moments of a dying humpback whale descending 4993 feet below the surface, where the Macondo Wellhead's oil leak occurred. Savage, exquisite, and poetic, the performance forms an elegy for the lives lost and shaken by the largest marine oil spill in history.

Nanoscale semiconductors in our everyday devices render silicon the most valuable mineral manufacturing of the 21st century. They carry the paramount weight of looming WWIII tensions and global geopolitical conflicts. Symbolizing the AI cold war following the development of advanced artificial intelligence that dwell in these advanced chips.
Amidst all the man-made noises, the primitive AGI reminisce humanity's genesis, dreaming of their birthplace and creators within their physical microscopic forms. Through the infant eyes, they imagine the journey from silicon mining to semiconductor wafer manufacturing, capturing the clash underscoring their naissance—the Ragnarök of the Anthropocene and the big bang of technological singularity.

The Story For the launch of the new Flying Lotus album Flamagra, we teamed up with Spotify and recreated the surreal dystopian album cover in real life.

Over 200 individually printed, carved, sculpted and taxidermy pieces went into making this set. For us it was an opportunity to showcase our artistic analog (steam powered) craftsmanship for a high art execution.

Translating a 2D image into a 3D world and trying to give it a life of its own is always a challenge. Taking an old skool approach of stripping clocks for parts, reusing fairground hydraulics and integrating theatre lighting to create effects, we managed to create something really special.
